DISCOVERY CHANNEL - THE REALITY OF SPEED
“The Reality of Speed” promo opens with high contrast images that fade to black, followed by a series of quick cuts revealing stylized CG vehicles. Careful placement of bounce cards were used to balance a play of positive and negative reflection shapes. A reflection shader was then created to produce the high glossy finishing.
White CG bounce cards were used to create the reflections that we see on the vehicles. Odd reflection details popped up initially due to the placement and number of bounce cards. It was also due to the reflection of the neighboring parts of the motocross bike.
Additional bounce cards were used when we needed to pick up certain highlights from areas of the vehicles that would have been lost to the background otherwise. It turns out that less is more - the simpler the shape and the placement of the cards, the better the reflections look.
